7th - Locked out at 0800 hours on a fantastic day, clear skies and dead flat sea conditions. Attempted to fish one of my favorite spots but the ebb tide was a little too strong. Moved down to a mark known as the Hook and fished for two hours without a bit but as the tide was dropping off moved back to the bank. Within minutes landed a 1 1/2 lb Bass on Lug/Squid cocktail. Over the next two hours had 8 Thornback Rays on Crab, Lug, Squid and Ragworm, largest 12 pounds 4 ozs. It was amazing the colour variation of the Rays from Pinkish to Dark Black. Wind increased on the turn of the tide but conditions remained ideal. Locked back in at 1445 hours in order to get home at a sensible time, as it was my turn to cook that evening.
31st. - JC and myself fished on a rising tide on the Bank and managed to land 12 Bass (John 9 and myself 3) between 1-1/4 lbs and 2-1/2 lbs plus a good size Green Eel.
May was one of the best months for fishing in a long time, the weather was reasonable with only light winds most of the time and the bass turned up in numbers. John and Mary on Solemate had over 30 bass, with the best of 7lb 4ozs which was returned alive to the water as were the vast majority of their catch. Skate, conger, whiting, sole, flounders and green eels were all reported to have been caught. Quite a few members managed to take advantage of the good weather and get afloat but have not passed on how they got on, something we will try to change in the coming months. It was a pity that one of the only windy days happened to coincide with we had chosen for our competition, better luck next month we hope! Bill G - web editor.

We were all in the 8 o'clock lock decided to go for the biggest Sole and Smooth Hound so all went to Black Rock Area. Nothing much about Solemate had 1 dog fish and 1 small conger. At top of tide all except Mytime went to Lady Bay. Not long after we were settled had call from Cliff on My time to say they had a 10lb Smooth Hound also a smaller one. No body caught a Sole so all the money went to Mytime. Not much caught a few small cod some Rays and Congers. Ruby D the charter boat was out and they had 3 Smooth Hounds. All in on the 2.15 lock.
